The Tirhatuan Park Sensory Trail is a large project made up of 9 separate zones, which will be delivered in stages when funding becomes available.
The community will be invited to provide feedback on the proposed design and features of each zone as the trail is developed over time.
The Sensory Trail project aims to enhance the park’s existing natural environment in Dandenong North by creating an accessible and inclusive sensory experience for all users.
Building on existing park features such as Dandenong Creek, native vegetation and open open spaces, the project introduces sensory‑focused elements that support physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
The design is guided by principles of inclusivity, sustainability and community connection.
The trail will offer a range of experiences that engage the senses of touch, sight, sound and smell, encouraging relaxation, exploration and learning. It is designed for people of all ages and abilities, including older adults and people with sensory impairments.
This project aligns with the City of Greater Dandenong’s vision to deliver unique, high‑quality recreational spaces that celebrate nature, support community health and enhance the visitor experience.
