Community consultation feedback

12 February 2025

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback and ideas for the Spring Valley Reserve Draft Master Plan.

Community consultation was held from 22 July to 18 August 2024.

We asked the community to vote on the elements that were most important to them, and to tell us what they would like to see included and/or improved in the future design of the reserve.

We outlined how the former landfill site is being transformed for community use, and how the future design of the reserve must carefully consider how the capped areas can be developed.

  • online activities (survey, points activity and ideas wall) – we received a total of 137 contributions
  • flyers posted to surrounding properties
  • posters placed in the reserve
  • a community drop-in session at the reserve
  • article in the August 2024 edition of the Greater Dandenong Council News magazine
  • social media posts, including promotion on Youth Services social media channels
  • in-class workshops with primary school students
  • meeting with 50 members of SICMMA (Springvale Indo-Chinese Mutual Assistance Association).

What we heard

The community has a strong connection with this park and appreciates the extensive size of this open space.

There was very strong community sentiment to enhance the reserve's facilities, infrastructure and landscaping to enable the park to be used for both informal and active recreation.

The top reasons for enjoyment of the park and what the community do when visiting the park are:

These top reasons for enjoyment correspond with the comments the community provided on what they would like to see included and/or enhanced in the Draft Master Plan.

We also heard ideas and suggestions that are not able to be considered within the scope of this project.

Next steps

Council will engage with the environmental consultants who manage the former landfill component of the site.

We will also engage with other Councils who have a vested interest in the continued safe management and rehabilitation of the former landfill.

A Draft Master Plan will be developed based on the feedback we received from the community and stakeholders.

Due to the constraints of developing the site, it is anticipated that the Draft Master Plan will be ready for community consultation in 2026.
