A new name for the Dandenong wellbeing centre
We’re building a new aquatic centre to replace the Dandenong Oasis. Throughout the project, it’s been known as the Dandenong Wellbeing Centre – but now we need to formally name it.
It needs a name that is welcoming and memorable.
For more than six months we've been working with our community to shortlist names for the new centre, and now it's your turn to have your say. We had a longer list, but the resounding community feedback was that we should keep ‘Oasis’ in the name.
. The options are:
- Oasis Pools and Wellbeing
- Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing

Some of your questions answered
We asked people how they felt about the old Dandenong Oasis facility and the new Dandenong wellbeing centre under construction. From their comments, a long list of names was developed.
These names were tested with focus groups of local people of various ages and backgrounds.
Across all community groups, of all ages, there was overwhelming support for keeping the word ‘Oasis.’
Oasis Pools and Wellbeing
Oasis Pools and Wellbeing is a simple, familiar and community friendly name that highlights what locals have always liked the centre for – the pools. Using the word ‘pools’ reinforces that there will be multiple pools with different purposes, while ‘wellbeing’ explains the broader purpose of the centre.
Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing
Honouring community’s desire to keep Oasis, this also explains what the facility is. It’s more common to see ‘aquatics’ rather than ‘pools’ in the formal names of facilities – but we want to know what you prefer. What feels right for Dandenong?
- Have your say and help us name the new centre. We'd like you to rank the names in order of preference.
- The results from this community consultation will help inform Council's final decision on a name for the new centre.
- The name endorsed by Council will then be submitted to Geographic Names Victoria for approval. The naming of public places follows an official process set by the Victorian Government's Office of Geographic Names. The Office of Geographic Names Victoria has been consulted on both names and has given in principle support for both.
The centre has been designed to include a broad range of facilities, as determined by the Greater Dandenong Aquatic Strategy (2019) and refined through subsequent community and stakeholder engagement.
The project includes a 50-metre pool, learn to swim pool, two warm water pools, an integrated hockey pavilion, a new forecourt, landscaping, car park, spa and sauna.
The new centre will provide opportunities for people of all ages, cultures, and abilities to be active, social, and engaged in their health. With swimming, general fitness, rehabilitation, social spaces and culturally inclusive programs, it will play a key role in getting more people, more active, more often.
