Help us shape our Gambling Policy
Greater Dandenong City Council’s Gambling Policy sets out how we work to reduce gambling‑related harm in our community.
We are currently reviewing this policy and want to hear from people who live, work or spend time in Greater Dandenong about:
- how gambling affects our community, and
- what Council can do to help reduce harm.
We invite you to share your thoughts to help us shape our Gambling Policy. Have your say 16 June 2026.
Why your input matters
Gambling harm can affect individuals, families and the wider community. In Greater Dandenong, this harm is more severe because lower household incomes mean gambling losses can have a greater impact.
Among different forms of legal gambling, pokies (electronic gambling machines or EGMs) and sports and online betting are of particular concern.
- Pokies account for almost half of all gambling losses and most gambling harm.
- In Greater Dandenong, over $140 million is lost to pokies each year, which is around $400,000 every day.
- Online and sports betting has grown rapidly, especially through mobile phones, and is increasingly affecting young people and adolescents.
Your feedback will help Council:
- understand how gambling affects people locally
- identify what actions are most effective
- update the Gambling Policy to better support community wellbeing
