A Master Plan sets out the vision for a reserve and provides a framework to guide future design, development and maintenance over the next 10+ years.

A Master Plan aims to:

• establish a holistic vision for the park
• identify existing assets and their function (eg. buildings, trees, ovals, playgrounds, etc.)
• ensure that the park is suitable and relevant to the needs of the current and future community
• protect the areas and qualities of the park that are valued
• identify improvements
• improve connections throughout the park
• improve recreational opportunities
• enhance tree canopy coverage, biodiversity and habitat
• improve access and public safety where possible
• establish an implementation plan for future works.

Dandenong Park is classified as a ‘District’ level playground in Council's endorsed Playground Strategy and Action Plan 2013-2023. The playground design will be developed in response to this classification.

District level playgrounds are our large scale playgrounds, generally located in district reserves and co-located near other major recreational facilities and park infrastructure such as BBQs and picnic tables, toilets, sports fields, skate parks, basketball courts, car parks, etc. They generally have play options for children aged 2-14 years and are located within a 2-3 kilometres driving distance of a residential catchment. They include at least 70 different play activities. They are intended for stays of several hours.

The final concept plan will have an Implementation Plan developed which will guide the staged construction program. The funding of the capital works projects is subject to future capital improvement bids being supported through council’s annual budget process.
