About the park

Dandenong Park is located on Princes Highway, Dandenong.

With an area of more than 17 hectares, Dandenong Creek and the regional bike trail runs through this district park. Dandenong Park includes Shepley Oval, the historic home for Dandenong Park's sports facilities, with the football and cricket clubs being established in 1874.

The Riverside Precinct includes a playground, a large picnic area with BBQ’s, seating, picnic tables and shelters. It features heritage interpretive signage of the former RSL Drill Hall and River Red Gums.

Project information

This project is part of the Dandenong Park Regional Leisure Precinct Master Plan 2007.

The design for the Riverside Precinct of Dandenong Park was completed in 2011-2012. The playground design is themed around the colour ‘red’ which references the industrial and manufacturing heritage of Dandenong.

Separate stages of this park area have already been implemented, including the existing playground, picnic area, interpretative artwork and major path works.

This project is to develop a design that expands the playground area in response to the demand and use of this park area. The design will include a diverse range of play equipment to cater to a range of ages and abilities.
