Help shape Council's Road Management Plan

Council is reviewing its Road Management Plan, a key document that guides how we manage and respond to hazards on local roads and footpaths, and we’re inviting the community to have a say on the proposed changes.

What is the Road Management Plan?

The Road Management Plan sets out Council’s responsibilities for looking after public roads in our municipality. It outlines:

  • How we identify and respond to road and path hazards
  • The standards we use (like timeframes for repairs or inspections)

This Plan is prepared in line with the Road Management Act 2004 and helps make sure roads and paths are safe and well-maintained for all users.

You can read the current Plan here.

Why is Council reviewing the Plan?

Under the Local Government Act 2020, all councils must review their Road Management Plan after each election. This ensures the Plan continues to reflect:

  • Council’s policies and operational goals
  • Available funding and resources
  • Current community expectations

Any proposed changes to the Plan must also go through a public consultation process.

What changes are proposed?

  • Recommendations from a MAV review

We've adopted some recommendations from a review undertaken by the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) on insurance matters.

  • Improved efficiency

We’ve made some changes to the descriptions and timeframes to use our resources more effectively.

  • Updates to road hierarchy

We've updated road and path hierarchies to reflect current best practice and state standards.
