We are inviting expressions of interest from Bunurong artists and designers to create an original artwork for our Third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) resources.

About the opportunity

  • This project is a chance for a Bunurong creative to design a unique artwork that tells their story of what Reconciliation means to them.
  • The artwork will support our Third Innovate RAP and show our commitment to Reconciliation, learning, respect, and celebrating Bunurong and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and Cultures.
  • All designs must be the original work of the artist.
  • The artist will need to confirm that the artwork can be completed by 5pm on Friday 4 April 2025.

What we are looking for

We are looking for artworks that:

  • represent the spirit of Reconciliation
  • demonstrate artistic excellence
  • are original and forward thinking
  • can be in painting, drawing or digital art forms.

Eligibility

All Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander artists who identify as Bunurong are eligible to enter.

Terms and Conditions

The artist/s will need to grant the right to use the Work for organisational purposes such as, but not limited to documentation, marketing and promotion. The artwork will not be replicated or printed on items for sale without further consultation with the artist to discuss and confirm appropriate resale royalties.

Further T&Cs will be made available at time of selection.

Compensation

A total budget of $10,000 (excluding GST) has been allocated for this project. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Artist Fee, (including Superannuation) for the design and production of a piece of artwork
  • Artwork Fee, for the materials and costs associated with the design and production of the agreed high-resolution artwork, digital scan of the physical artwork and production costs
  • Use of the artist’s supplied explanation or story outlining how the artwork represents the spirit of reconciliation
  • Licensing of Artwork – please refer to Terms and Conditions above.

Location dependent, allowance may be possible to cover the shipping and handling of the physical artwork produced to transport the artwork to Greater Dandenong City Council, Dandenong. To be discussed with successful artist.

Evaluation and notification process

Submissions will be de-identified prior to being assessed by a panel and one City of Greater Dandenong Internal Reconciliation Action Plan Steering Committee member.

This panel will shortlist preferred artist submissions.

Applications will be judged on but not limited to:

  • creative approach
  • interpretation of the meaning of Reconciliation
  • story that represents the spirit of Reconciliation.

To submit an EOI, we will ask you to provide

  • A short bio including your full name and which mob you identify with
  • A written statement/story describing the artwork story and connection to Reconciliation
  • 2-3 examples of previous artwork
  • A draft or sketch of your initial concept idea for this project.

All submissions must be received via email by 5pm, Friday 24 January 2025. Submissions received after this date will not be considered.
